This service is built on the Matrix open messaging standard, using our own privately operated Synapse server and the Element client for everyday use.
Unlike commercial chat platforms, accounts are created by invitation only, hosted on infrastructure we control.
They are not tied to phone numbers, email addresses, advertising, or data mining. Messages are end-to-end encrypted by default, and no third party, or any admin for that matter, has access to your conversations or account metadata beyond what is technically required to deliver messages.
The goal of this system is simple: private, durable communication governed by the people who use it — not by a corporation, algorithm, or business model.
Not all options are utilized within the Element App. This section will be more complete as this process matures.
